All of the above happens and Aurora falls into a deep sleep, fulfilling the curse. Maleficent, intent on saving Aurora, abducts Phillip and infiltrates King Stefan’s castle. Did you know that Maleficent’s horns were so heavy that Angelina would have neck pains right after wearing them? The horns were not appropriate for some of her scenes, such as her flight scene, battle scene and horse-riding scene. Hence, Angelina Jolie wore several headpieces with different weights.
What happens when Prince Phillip kisses the Sleeping Beauty?
Prince Phillip, with encouragement from the fairies, kisses Aurora or Sleeping Beauty. When it doesn’t work, the fairies set off to find another prince. Angelina Jolie based her character's speech and accent on the original Sleeping Beauty's Maleficent voice actor, Eleanor Audley. Stefan and his guards spring an ambush on Maleficent. They have steel shields which they use to surround and trap her. Also, King Stefan and his army are covered head to toe with armor that will burn her. As her attackers close in, Maleficent transforms Diaval into a dragon, but they are driven back by the guards. Maleficent's crow companion is named Diaval, pronounced similarly to devil. In the Disney cartoon version of Sleeping Beauty, Maleficent's crow companion is named Diablo, which means the same. In Irish lore, crows are associated with the winged battle goddesses, the Morrigan (they sound similar, as well, to Maleficent). In most all other lore, crows are associated with death, the dead, and trickery.
What happens before Stefan can deliver the killing blow to Maleficent?
King Stefan burns and taunts Maleficent, but before he can deliver a killing blow, her wings are freed by Aurora and fly back to Maleficent, reattaching themselves. Maleficent is fully empowered but is still fighting for her life. As a co-producer, Angelina Jolie insisted that the dialogue in Aurora's christening sequence to be written word-by-word and based exactly on the original animated film Sleeping Beauty because she felt it was the main core and setup of the entire film. But the new story does differ from the original scene, because Maleficent originally cursed Aurora with death after pricking her finger. Then, the final fairy uses her gift to change the spell from death to slumber.

Maleficent carries Stefan to the top of the castle's highest tower. At the precipice, she cannot bring herself to kill him. Stefan attempts to kill her, however, and both plummet from the tower. How do the Moors and the Kingdom unite?
Maleficent gives up her crown as protector and Queen of the Moor. Instead, Princess Aurora is crowned Queen by Maleficent, unifying the two kingdoms in peace. And everyone lived happily ever after. In an interview, Angelina Jolie noted that "having a director (Robert Stromberg) coming from the world of production design really helped pull me into the fairy tale world. The film is beautiful but also has a sexy, dark edge, because the story is coming from the point of view of a villain."

Maleficent received mixed reviews from critics. The film holds a 50% approval rating on the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, based on 201 reviews, with an average score of 5.7/10.
