About This Quiz

If you've ever gone east of the Greenwich meridian or west of the International Dateline, you've put a foot into the Eastern Hemisphere. Even though it doesn't contain any part of the Americas, this half of the globe includes most of our world's goings-on, from people to countries to economic activity.

It is an enormously diverse area as a result, with landmasses stretching from the Arctic Circle all the way down to the Cape of Good Hope on the southern tip of Africa. If you want a particular kind of climate, to live at a specific altitude, or to enjoy a democratic country (or indeed to find a place that really loves a dictator and take a shot at becoming one), then the Eastern Hemisphere has a place that is right for you. Indeed, it's even bigger than you think it is, due to the way that flat maps shrink down the parts in the middle, making Africa and Asia look smaller than they are.

Humanity was born in this part of the world, and also matured from its caveman or nomadic phase within this hemisphere. As humans first began to understand that growing food was a lot safer as a way to guarantee your lifestyle than following it around, civilization was born in the Fertile Crescent, and spread from there to the world. Let's see how much you know about the cradle of civilization!

Is it true or false that the Eastern Hemisphere is larger than the Western Hemisphere in terms of land mass?
