The 1980s. Not only was it a decade of good music, but the automotive industry also produced some memorable and iconic models! And these were across a range of car types, from sports cars to people carriers and even affordable runabouts. 

So the question then is ... Is your knowledge of various car models from the 1980s good enough for you to ace this test? 

With just a single screenshot as your clue, would you be able to identify one of the most iconic sports cars ever built, brought to the world by that famous Italian marque with the prancing horse logo? And what about an American '80s muscle car from one of the big three of American motoring? A car that wasn't much of a success but certainly became an icon thanks to a movie franchise shouldn't be hard to identify.

But what about some less famous cars? The '80s was the birthplace of some of the marques that are still massive sellers today, in the United States, Europe and across the world. One is named after a religious festival and was first produced in Europe before hitting the States. Another, from a German car maker, continues to be a top seller around the world.

And then there are a few old favorites, some produced in the '50s for the first time and were still going strong in the '80s.

The Ford Tempo was an attempt by the American company to produce a small vehicle that would compete with Japanese imports in the 1980s. The Tempo was also badged by Mercury under the name Topaz. This compact car was introduced in 1983.

This truck was Dodge's answer to the heavy trucks of the 1980s produced by Chevrolet and Ford. It was noted for its diesel engine designed by Cummings which up to that point, had only been featured in large commercial trucks. The truck proved popular and helped Dodge get some market share in the heavy truck segment.

Built between 1986 and 2001, the Integra Coupe was based on the Honda model of the same name. In fact, when Acura was first launched in 1986, this was one of only two models offered. The first generation was available as a four-door sedan or a three- or five-door liftback body shape.

This '80s muscle car quickly took the fight to its more established rivals from Ford and Chevrolet, particularly the GNX edition.

The Lumina was Chevrolet's second APV after the Astro. Built between 1989 and 1996, Chevrolet marketed the Lumina as an 'All Purpose Vehicle.' The first generation Lumina was severely underpowered.

One of the most iconic sports cars ever, the Countach was released in 1970 but saw numerous upgrades in the 1980s, including a larger 4.7-liter motor in 1982. In total, 321 units of this model were built.

The Voyager minivan was produced by Chrysler from 1984 until 2016. The first generation, a three-door model, had the option for a 3.3-liter V6 engine. Transmission included a 5-speed manual or 3-speed automatic.

The Dodge 600 saw production between 1983 and 1988. This four-door sedan was Dodge's answer to the influx of European cars hitting the U.S. market. It later was available as a coupe and a convertible which was basically a rebadged Dodge 400s. In total, more than 300,000 were sold by 1988.

Produced for three decades, the 80 was a stalwart of the Audi fleet. In the '80s, two generations were available, with the B2 crossing over from the '70s and the B3 first entering production in 1986. More than 1.4 million were built over the rest of the decade.

Produced between 1971 and 1994, the Colt was actually built by Mitsubishi Motors and marketed by Dodge in the United States. The fifth generation was sold between 1984 and 1988. Available as either a three- or five-door hatchback, five-door station wagon or four-door sedan, this Colt had a 1.6-liter engine.

In total, 1,311 Ferrari F40’s were produced between 1987 and 1991. Many consider this to be the finest Ferrari ever. The F40 was powered by a 2.9-liter twin turbo V12 capable of producing 471 brake horsepower. The F40’s top speed was 321 km/h.

The Legacy is a 4-door sedan first released in 1989, originally in the compact car segment. Powered by a boxer engine, the Legacy had excellent power and great handling.

Produced between 1980 and 2009, the Kodiak was Chevrolet's truck model in the medium-duty truck segment. The first generation, produced until 1989, offered two petrol and three diesel engine options.

The flagship model in the Honda range, the Legend has been in production since 1985. It has taken other name badges around the world, including Acura Legend, RL and RLX as well as Daewoo Arcadia. The Legend is a four-door luxury sedan.

Designed by Maurice Wilks, the Land Rover changed little over time. In the 1980s, three models were made available, the 90, 110 and 127. The 90 model had just two engine options, either a 2.2-liter diesel or petrol engine.

One of the longest running Ford models, the third generation of the Escort was extremely popular in Europe. This was meant to be a standalone Ford model called the Erika but actually became part of the Escort range. It was powered by a range of engine options from 1.1 to 1.6-liter and available as a hatchback, estate, cabriolet and van.

The Scrum, introduced in 1989, was originally badged as the company's other marque, the Autozam. It features in two body shapes, a micro truck and a cab over microvan. The Scrum is powered by a 660 cc DOHC three-cylinder engine and has both 2-wheel drive and 4-wheel drive variants.

Built between 1980 and 1999, the Silver Spirit is the epitome of luxury. The Mk 1 was powered by a 6.75 L V8 engine. In total, 8,126 were built.

This compact sedan was produced by Honda between 1989 and 1997. Two generations were produced with the first powered by either a 1.8 or three different 2.0-liter petrol engine options.

Known for their sports cars, the LM002 was a massive departure for Lamborghini. It was built between 1986 and 1993 with 328 made. Pirelli was commissioned to make custom tires for the vehicle.

The first generation of BMW's famed 3 series was released in 1975 and remained in production until 1983. The 315 was built between 1981 and 1983 and was powered by a 1.6-liter engine that produced 73 horsepower. This gave it a top speed of close to 100 mph.

Only one generation of the Cimarron was released by Cadillac over a 7-year period from 1981 to 1988. The Cimarron featured as a four-door sedan in the compact car segment.

The fourth generation of the Corvette, designated C4, was built from 1984 and for the rest of the decade. This was the first model of this iconic car to receive a complete makeover and redesign since 1963. One of the major changes was an all-aluminum suspension.

Competing in the compact segment, the Citation was produced by Chevrolet between 1980 and 1985.

Powered by either a 1.0 or 1.2-liter engine, the Sumo was a microvan released by Subaru between 1983 and 1998. With a five-speed manual gearbox, some even had the option of four-wheel drive.

One of Toyota's longest produced models, three generations of the Corolla served the '80s. The sixth generation, introduced in 1987, included a more rounded, aerodynamic body style with a range of engine options from 1.3 to 2.0-liter.

Often called the Jumbo Golf, the Mk II was released in 1983. More than 6.3 million were produced. This also included the famed GTI model, made famous by Volkswagen in the 1970s. The Mk II included two body options - three-door or five-door hatchback.

When Acura was first launched in 1986, this was one of only two models offered. The first generation Legend was powered by a 2.5-liter V6 engine. It produced around 150 brake horsepower.

From 1987 until 1992, the Brougham had sales of more than 220,000 units. This popular Cadillac saw 178,000 models produced in the '80s alone. These were powered by a 5.0-litre V8 engine that produced 140 brake horsepower.

Designed by Jerry Palmer, the Baretta, a front-wheel-drive two-door coupe based on the Chevrolet L body platform, was manufactured between 1987 and 1996. It offered seven engine options with the most powerful a 3.1-liter V6.

Produced between 1986 and 2011, the Dodge Dakota is a pick-up truck competing in the mid-sized market segment. The top of the range first generation Dakota was powered by a 5.2-liter V8 engine.

Produced for a period of 12 years from 1984 to 1996, the Testarossa was first unveiled at the Paris Motor Show. Two models were manufactured with the first Pininfarina designed car, the 512 TR, made until 1991. The Testarossa was powered by a 4.9-liter flat 12 engine.

Certainly an iconic name in American motoring, the Cadillac DeVille was produced between 1958 and 2005. The sixth generation was produced for the mid part of the '80s into the '90s and was available as a four-door sedan or two-door coupe.

After playing it safe for a number of years, Chevrolet introduced the GMT 400 in 1988. This truck featured a sleek new body, designed with the help of a wind tunnel. The ride was also significantly improved, thanks to an independent front suspension with torsion bars.

The Fifth Avenue badge had formed part of other Chrysler marques over the years but between 1983 and 1993, it was its own model. They were powered by a 5.2-liter V8 engine that produced 140 brake horsepower. As Chrysler's largest car during these years, the Fifth Avenue proved popular with 100,000 sold in 1985 alone.

The second generation Ford Fiesta was marketed for a period of six years, from 1983 to 1989. As a passenger car, it was only available as a three-door hatchback, although a panel van version was made available for commercial purposes.

Designed by Kunihiro Uchida, the LS first hit the market in 1989 and was the same vehicle as the Toyota Celsior with a few refinements. The first generation of the LS featured a 4.0-liter V8 motor which produced 250 brake horsepower!

A Porsche from the 80's, the 959 was produced between 1986 and 1988 and again from 1992 to 1993. Only 345 were built. It originated as a rally car but 200 production models were needed to be built as per FIA rules.

In theory, the DeLorean was a winner. In practice, it caused its parent company to go bankrupt and close. The DeLorean is probably most remembered for appearing in the "Back to the Future" movie trilogy.
